Compatibility Ratings Explained

The official PPSSPP compatibility database uses five standard ratings. Status reflects gameplay on mid-range hardware with sensible default settings — your device and configuration may differ. Always use the latest PPSSPP build before judging a title.

Perfect

Runs flawlessly with no glitches, audio issues, or slowdown. All features work as on original hardware. Ideal reference experience.

Playable

Fully playable with minor issues that do not block progression — occasional texture flicker, rare audio crackle, or negligible graphical quirks.

In-game

Game loads and reaches gameplay but has noticeable problems — slowdown, missing effects, or bugs that affect enjoyment but allow continued play.

Menu

Title boots to menus or intros but cannot reach stable gameplay. Useful for testing but not for playing through the game.

Nothing

Does not boot or crashes immediately. May improve in future PPSSPP releases — check the database for updates before abandoning a title.

Device Performance Tiers

Expected PPSSPP performance by hardware class. These are general guidelines — individual game demands and settings override tier expectations. See our setup guide for tuning graphics per device.

Low-End Phone

Budget Android, older iPhones

  • 1× native resolution, OpenGL backend
  • Most 2D and lighter 3D titles at full speed
  • Disable texture scaling and anisotropic filtering
  • Demanding 3D games may need frameskip

Examples: Snapdragon 4xx series, iPhone 6s–8, 2 GB RAM devices

Mid-Range Phone

Mainstream 2020+ smartphones

  • 2× resolution, Vulkan where supported
  • Majority of library Playable or Perfect
  • Buffered rendering on for most titles
  • xBRZ texture scaling on select games

Examples: Snapdragon 7xx/8xx (non-flagship), iPhone 11–13, 4–6 GB RAM

High-End Phone

Flagship chipsets

  • 3× resolution, Vulkan, full texture scaling
  • Nearly entire library at Perfect or Playable
  • Adhoc and online multiplayer stable
  • External controller + high overlay quality

Examples: Snapdragon 8 Gen 2+, Apple A15+, Galaxy S / Pixel Pro series

PC (Desktop / Laptop)

Windows, macOS, Linux

  • 3×–5× resolution, Vulkan, 16× anisotropic
  • Full library playable with correct settings
  • Save states, fast-forward, HD textures
  • Any discrete GPU from GTX 750 Ti era onward

Integrated graphics: use 2× res. Dedicated GPU: 4×+ on 1080p displays.

Steam Deck

Handheld PC / Linux

  • 2×–3× resolution at 60 FPS typical
  • Vulkan via Flatpak or EmuDeck
  • Built-in controls map via Steam Input
  • 2–4 hour battery at balanced TDP (10–15W)

Deck OLED and LCD both excel. EmuDeck simplifies ROM paths and per-system configs.

How to Report Issues

Found a game that doesn't match its listed status, or discovered a new bug? The PPSSPP community maintains an open compatibility database at report.ppsspp.org. Your reports help developers prioritize fixes and help other players set expectations.

  1. Visit report.ppsspp.org and search for your game title.
  2. Select the game and choose your compatibility rating (Perfect, Playable, In-game, Menu, or Nothing).
  3. Include your PPSSPP version, platform (e.g. Android 14, Windows 11), device model, and graphics settings used.
  4. Describe specific issues: black screens, audio glitches, graphical artifacts, or crashes — with steps to reproduce if possible.
  5. For emulator bugs (not game-specific), file a detailed issue on GitHub with logs and a save state if applicable.

What to Include in a Report

Before reporting, update to the latest PPSSPP build and try alternate graphics backends. Many issues are resolved in newer releases.
